tap the beat. find out where your zero is.
your taps cluster tightly, and the cluster is not on the beat
Every tap is stamped on the ruler at its own distance from the tick, so after a dozen of them you are looking at a picture of your own timing rather than of the beat. Two numbers come out of that picture and they are not the same number: the WIDTH of the cluster is how repeatable you are, which is a real thing you can sharpen, and the CENTRE is where your zero actually sits. The centre includes your screen's own touch latency, so it is you plus your phone, and the card says so rather than selling it as a verdict on your ear. Then the metronome retunes its tick to your centre and you land dead on without having changed anything at all.
Concepts: rhythm, synchronization.
