Drift

the car keeps going where it was going. you only aim where it faces.

hold to drift, release to grip -- the path lags behind the body until you let it catch up

A drifting car has two headings, not one: the body is turned by the wheels, but the path keeps the heading it already had, because the tyres have let go of the road. Holding turns the body into the corner while the path slides on its old line; releasing lets the tyres bite again, and the path swings hard to catch up with wherever the body is pointed at that instant. There is no separate steering to learn -- the whole game is choosing when to let go.

Concepts: momentum, friction, heading.
